Current Pastoral Council Bios
Bob Ahlstrom, Jr. Trustee, ex officio:
My wife Theresa and I moved to Melville and joined St. Elizabeth in October 1991. We have two sons Timothy (8) and Gregory (6). I am an attorney in private practice concentrating on Estate Administration as well as the purchase and sale of residential properties. My service to St. Elizabeth’s Church began in 1993 when I was asked to serve on the Finance Committee. Since then, I have become a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Parish Trustee. I wish to serve the parish in a meaningful way and to continue to develop this wonderful Christian community of faith and action.
My husband Tom and I have been members of St Elizabeth’s parish since August of 1980. We are married for 40 years with four married sons and twelve grandchildren. I retired as kindergarten and 1st grade teacher at Trinity Regional and then became Director of Religion at St. Rose of Lima until my retirement in 2007. I’ve been part of Family Mass, Baptism,
Liturgy Committee, Eucharistic Minister and Reader. Being part of St Elizabeth’s Parish has truly been a wonderful faith filled experience and I’ve have grown so much in my years here. My hope is that, as a member of the Council, I will be able to help our parish continue to grow, serve the needs of the community and listen to our parishioners.
My husband, Michael, my daughter, Cory, and I have been with St Elizabeth's for thirteen years. I started out on the Hospitality Committee, joined the Family Mass Committee and became involved with Youth Ministry and the Adult Planning Committee. My husband and I renewed our vows of thirty years this past March and I became a Eucharist Minister in time to serve for the first time at the Christmas Eve Mass this past year. I have always felt very much a part of the St. Elizabeth community. My vision for the parish is for its vibrant spirit to continue to grow so that every parishioner can feel the peace, love and sense of community that I do.
My wife, Nancy, and I have been members of St. Elizabeth Parish since we moved to Dix Hills in May of 1981. We have two sons, John (25) and Keith (23), who have received all their sacraments at St. Elizabeth. In 1998, I became a founding member of the revised Pastoral Council, and served five years on the Council. I have been a member of the Stewardship Committee, Spiritual Life Center Board and the ALPHA Steering Committee. I have been a catechist and taught confirmation preparation. In addition, I have coached St. Elizabeth CYO soccer, baseball and basketball; and was the Soccer Referee Coordinator. At present I am a Reader, usually at the 8:00 mass. My vision for the Parish is that we continue to engage as many Roman Catholics in our area as we can so that they too can enjoy the benefits – as my family and I have – of being a member of this wonderful Christian community we call St. Elizabeth’s.
I am the proud father of Charles IV (17), Maryanne (9), Emily (5), and Meghan (3). My wife of over 20 years Anna has given me the stability, love and strength to work everyday and strive to make our lives better and to impact the world in a positive way. My family moved to Huntington in 1969 when I was 5, and I received my Communion, Confirmation in the pre-renovated St Elizabeth’s Church. I have been blessed with a true understanding of how the Catholic Church can be the center of your life and to belong to a community with a greater purpose then what is commonly called success in today’s world. Being a member of the Pastoral Council affords me the chance to guide the Church that has meant so much to my family. I will listen to the community, parishioners and nonparishioners, and try to identify our needs and hopes for a more complete experience within the church.
Bob Mockrish, Trustee, ex officio
My wife Marian and I are founding members of St. Elizabeth and our three sons have received their sacraments here. All three of our sons are now living overseas and working in the field of international education. I have been a home catechist as has Marian, and together we shared many other ministries, including fund raisers for our new parish, for Holy Family High School (now St. Anthony's), Bereavement, Journey to Justice, Alpha, RCIA, Pre-Cana, founding members of the revised Pastoral Council, and ministers of Holy Communion. I am a Reader, a Parish Trustee and a member of the Finance Committee. I have also been
recently appointed President of the newly-formed St. Elizabeth Senior Group. My vision for St. Elizabeth is for the parish to continue to grow and to reach out to all segments of the parish community so that all can continue to grow and love our faith.
Marguerite Melone
I have been a member of St. Elizabeth’s parish for the past fourteen years. My husband Mitchell and I are married 21 years and we have three daughters, Victoria 17, Melissa 12, and Samantha 7. I teach children in the Family Program and I am part of leadership in Vacation Bible Camp. As a member of the Family Mass Committee I am responsible for scheduling the junior lectors. Most recently I helped run the Halloween Social. I feel we are very blessed to belong to such a strong and committed parish. I have watched the parish grow and witnessed the overwhelming increase in young people where we take an active interest in building a foundation of faith in our youth. Our family mission is to make a difference in the world and in serving on the Pastoral Council I hope to lead by example and work to strengthen our existing community while reaching out to those around us by welcoming them and assisting with their needs.
Pat Scharpf
My husband, Rich, and I have been married for 39 years and been part of St. Elizabeth parish community since January of 1972. I am a registered nurse with 42 years of practice, 23 of those years at Huntington Hospital; I also teach in the Nursing program at Adelphi University. We have 3 married children. Rich and I were “recruited” for the Baptism Committee shortly after we joined the parish. In 1979 I was part of the beginnings of the first Family Mass program. I taught in the home religious education program. Rich and I have been in the Precana for the past twelve years. We are also Eucharistic ministers. Most recently, we are volunteers in the Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative (HIHI). Over the years, St. Elizabeth’s parish has worked hard to continually identify and respond to the needs of not only our own parish but of the larger community within which we live. My vision for St. E’s is that we continue to serve our parish community, while expanding our efforts to respond with love to others who ask our help.
I have been a proud member of the St. Elizabeth family since 1995. My wife Diane, and my three sons Andrew, Kevin, and Scott enjoy participating in all aspects of parish life. In addition to my time on the Pastoral Council, I am a member of the St. Elizabeth CYO/S. Huntington Soccer Board where I serve as Secretary. My experiences with St. Elizabeth have enriched my
life and my family’s life and I am grateful to be able to serve the parish community. My vision for the Parish is to continue welcoming all into our family while encouraging those who have grown distant from their Catholic faith to rediscover what St. Elizabeth’s Parish can offer and strengthen belief in faith and family.
