Liturgy means "the work of the people". Liturgy happens when people come together, using ritual and symbols, to praise and thank God. As Catholics, our primary liturgical event is the celebration of the Mass. However, liturgy includes Rites (baptisms and wedding ceremonies for example), Services (Stations of the Cross, wakes, evening prayer) and Blessings. There are seven sacraments of the church - Eucharist, Matrimony, Reconciliation, Baptism, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick, and Confirmation. When individuals prepare to receive a sacrament for the first time, there is a preparation period. Parish ministries assist in the process of preparation and reception.
